Nestled between 840 and 2432 meters above sea level, the natural setting of the town of Abondance is very rich. From the village, you will discover the wonders of Chablais, classified as a UNESCO Geopark.

The Lake Plagnes

At an altitude of 1190 m, Lake Plagnes is a natural site classified as a Unesco Geopark. This pretty lake has a total area of ​​6 hectares, it is dominated by the Mont de Grange summit (2432m), a Natura 2000 reserve.

In winter, the Nordic area of ​​Lake Plagnes offers a multitude of activities: departure and accompanied excursions on snowshoe hikes and ski touring, introduction to dog sledding, and when the conditions allow it: ice skating on the frozen lake.

For nordic skiing enthusiasts, a 3km loop allows free practice of skating and classic.

Access :

Accessible by car from the center of the village of Abondance (5 km) by taking the road to Charmy l’Adroit. Parking near the lake. Picnic tables and restaurant on site open during school holidays.
It is best to inquire at the tourist office before reaching the lake.

This heritage has allowed Chablais to be recognized as a UNESCO Geopark.
